STEM club. LEMONS!
Lesson: Science
This week, STEM club started to explore simple chemistry; namely how acids react when mixed with other substances or exposed to certain conditions/temperatures. We learned that lemon juice is actually citric acid and explored what happened when citric acid was mixed with bicarbonate of soda. The bubbles that were produced were a gas called carbon dioxide... That was the science background but we had great fun making colurful little lemon "bombs" - a great idea for a party piece at Halloween! Then, we turned into Secret Agents and learned how to send our friends invisible citric acid messages that would only appear, as if by magic, when exposed to heat/light.
