Changing Shadows!

Lesson: Science

Class: Class 2 Year: 2019 - 2020

Class 2 have been learning about light and shadows. We already know that a shadow is formed when light hits an opaque object, so blocking the light. Today, we tried to answer the question on how the the size of shadows change, depending on how close the object tested was to the light source. Our key skills were how to:

  • Make simple, accurate measurements, using a range of equipment.
  • Look for patterns in results
  • Use  evidence, and/or results, to draw a simple conclusion to answer the original question.

The children were amazing in their attention to detail and measuring skills and were able to answer the question:

The closer the light source, the bigger the shadow.

Just look at one of the children lying on the floor to create his " perfect " shadow. I believe these photos show what science is all about for young children. Playing, exploring and learning, within guidelines given.
