Today in Class 2, we learned how an American named Chester Greenwood invented earmuffs in 1873 because his ears would get cold when he went ice skating. We then carried out our own experiment to see which material would make the best earmuffs.
First we made our own predictions which material would melt the ice the fastest. We then carefully wrapped our ice cubes in a variety of materials. After a set time, we checked on our ice cubes and found that two materials had melted the ice equally: cotton wool pads and cling film. We decided that although they melted a similar amount of ice, we would choose cotton wool pads because they would both keep us warm AND be soft against our ears.
